Abstract: Leptoglossus lonchoides Allen (Heteroptera, Coreidae) causes "fruit fall" in Bactris gasipaes H.B.K. (Palmae), in central Amazonia. Monoculture plantations of pejibaye, Bactris gasipaes, a domesticated neotropical palm, have suffered from premature fruit fall, which has considerably reduced yields in central Amazonia (Manaus, AM, Brazil) during the last few years. This fruit fall syndrome is partially, perhaps principally, due to a stink bug, Leptoglossus lonchoides (Heteroptera, Coreidae). This paper describes the damages, their importance and the insect.
