| 1. | 2017-Atual. Mammals and habitat use in the Cueiras Biological Reserve, Amazonia, Brazil. Descrição: The Cuieiras basin has great diversity of Amazonian habitats that can be divided into three main categories: tall forests on clay soils (terra firme), forests on white-sand soils (campinarana) and forests flooded by the river pulse (igapó). All these forests present variation in plant structure and composition due to variation in micro-edaphic properties. Pollinators and seed dispersers certainly contribute to regeneration of forests. For instance, seed dispersal provides a few moving chances for fixative plants, and is an important part for the maintenance of forest ecosystem. Seed dispersers limit the distance of dispersal of plant propagules, what is not the case of anemochory?s tree species (Herrera 2002), which leads to limited dispersion, and it may make coexistence of variety of plant species easier (Schupp et al., 2002). Our objectives in this study are: to clarify the trait of the animal community (mainly terrestrial mammal) of riverine area compared to inland terra firme area, to establish inventory, and to collect other information on animals for the Field Museum activity along Cuieiras? river. | 1. | 2015-Atual. BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION IN AMAZON BASED ON A NEW CONCEPT OF ?FIELD MUSEUM? Descrição: The Amazonian tropical forests accommodate a huge biodiversity and a variety of vegetation. It is quite important to understand the structure of a mosaic of non-flooded forests (Terra-firme), flooded forest (Igapo) and several different types of white-sand vegetation (Campinarana), which is one of the most outstanding characteristics of Amazonian tropical forests, based on inventory works on flora and fauna, and researches on biotic/ abiotic interactions among them. In this program, we will establish a basic research protocol and a series of infrastructures in INPA ZF-2 Biological Reserve and Cuieiras river (Cuieiras site), which will form an academic platform of ?Field Museum?. Among them, we will establish a canopy walkway system which will provide important information for understanding biodiversity and ecosystem function, as well as for outreach activities such as environmental education and eco-tourism..
